Celebrating Ghanaian Culture and Cuisine at the “Gob3” Festival

The “Gob3” festival held at the busy Tetteh Quarshie interchange in Accra drew quite a diverse crowd who came to indulge in the beloved Ghanaian dish and celebrate the country’s rich culture. In addition to locals, many in the diaspora traveled to participate in the festivities. Held on March 16, 2024, the event featured appearances from popular TV hosts like Giovanni and AJ Sarpong. Attendees were also treated to a stellar live performance by the legendary highlife band Kwan Pa. Formed in the 1990s, Kwan Pa is renowned for blending highlife, jazz, and afrobeat influences into their energetic sound. With vendors like Gob3 Degree, Gob3 Gucci, and Etornam Beans Plaza offering a variety of side dishes, attendees had their pick of accompaniments to pair with their beans like gari, plantain, rice, bread, and more.

Celebrating Ghanaian culture is a key part of the annual Ghana Month commemorations held every March. This year’s theme “Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes” pays tribute to freedom fighters. Special food fairs are also organized where chefs showcase dishes like waakye, jollof rice, and the beloved gob3. Overall, festivals and events throughout Ghana Month educate people about the country’s history while bringing people together in celebration of independence. Just like other beloved Ghanaian foods, the gob3 festival aims to proudly promote this staple dish and the rich culture behind it.
